About the Options For Recovery Program

The Options for Recovery (OFR) program has been in existence in San Diego County for the past 15 years. It is for foster parents and relative caregivers who have an interest in gaining knowledge on how to care for infants and children who were born drug and/or alcohol exposed.

The initial 5 day training is provided by the Chadwick Center at Children's Hospital in San Diego. Professionals who teach the class have personal experience in dealing with drug and/or alcohol exposed children. Upcoming training session dates are:

Next Session:   Call Nohemy Terrazas at (858) 616-5846 for next session dates and to register.

OPTIONS FOR RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUPS

1st Wednesday of each month, Balboa HHSA Office

The Options For Recovery Support group meets the first Wednesday evening of each month, September through June. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting and introduction of speaker begins at 7:00 p.m. Ongoing trainings are usually provided at each meeting. A list of upcoming speakers and topics is listed below. A 2 hour training certificate is given for each meeting attended, when a speaker is present.

Childcare is provided at support group meetings. Infants may (but are not required) to stay with the parents during the meeting. For everyone's accomodation, the childcare rooms are set up as follows:

* Infants & Crawlers/Beginning Walkers - This room is intended to be low activity to quiet. Diaper bags can be left for feeding and changing purposes.

* Walkers Plus - This room is for walkers and up. Activities, toys and a movie are provided during the meeting. Parents will be notified if their child needs a diaper change or to use the restroom.

Both childcare rooms are conveniently located inside of the meeting room building, with separate door access to each.
